This CD was a remake of It Must Be Friday Night with Beverly singing all the songs. We started on 1 November 2004 by rerecording all Beverly's vocals at Sound & Motion Studios in Cape Town, with Simon Ratcliff producing. Then we did new recordings of My Love and Silent Moments using Beverly's band. By December 2004 the CD was completed.
On 9 January 2005 the band played a full hour-long gig at the Standard Bank Jazzathon at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, playing most of the songs off the CD. This was a high point of my musical career!
Tracks 1, 3, 4, 5, and 8 were written by myself and the other tracks were written by Beverly. I played acoustic or electric guitars on most of the tracks, and bass on My Love. A number of notable musicians were involved as well: Barry van Zyl (Johnny Clegg's drummer) and Rob Ogilvie on drums, Willie van Zyl on clarinet and sax, David Goldberg on piano, Tigger Reunert on electric guitar, and Alvin Hendricks on bass. Beverly's band were used on My Love and Silent Moments and comprised Benedict de Maar on lead guitar, Trevor Fisher on keyboards and Roy Davids on drums. Simon Ratcliff contributed flute to My Love and upright bass to Silent Moments.
The CD received modest airplay on local radio stations (notably Fine Music Radio), with Friday Night and Bali Bay being most popular, and for which I received modest royalties from SAMRO. We also sold quite a few copies at Beverly's subsequent gigs. Sadly, the CD never made it to the shops because I had neglected to add a barcode to the CD package!
