This was a particularly fruitful period with no shortage of "inspiration" provided by the pathetic government, as captured in Moronicity, a play on duplicity. The title of the album is actually a line from One For Yourself, which I think is one of my better songs. I had to finish the album during the dreadful lockdown and was intrigued by a friend who was forced to endure going cold turkey when the government banned cigarettes, which gave rise to Just One Drag.
A bit of light relief is provided by Mellow Man, a song for the kiddies (yeah, right!), and Tall Tales, a little tongue-in-cheek waffle. Actually, Mellow Man borrows quite heavily from Lewis Carrol's The Walrus And The Carpenter, which I have covered previously .
A huge thank you as always to my partner Mel Williams, my biggest inspiration and fan. The songs Melody and Come A Long Way are dedicated to her.
I mostly play my Taylor steel string acoustic, with occasional lead breaks on my Aria nylon string acoustic. My bass is a Fender Jazz Bass played through a SansAmp DI box. The drums come out of a Boss drum box (not programmed!). Everything else is from a Roland JUNO-D keyboard. I wrote all the songs and play and sing everything.
The CD was recorded in my home studio in Somerset West between October 2019 and March 2020. The cover photo was taken by me during my Blues Route adventure in 2003, somewhere on Route 61 between Clarksdale and Memphis.
